Real World modo Authorized Trenches Real World Modo - A Great Intermediate Text For Taking Modo To The Next Level

Real World modo: The Authorized Guide: In the Trenches with modo Great book but I've purchased this book about a month ago and have been using it since. I'm new to Modo but not to 3D. I give a 3 rating because for a beginner in Modo I would like to have a bit more specifics than what we have here. I understand the concepts and approach but it is very difficult to actually guess what was clicked to get to a certain feature. Maybe it is because I'm too beginner for this book. I would like to be given a bit more along the step by step path. Together with this book I had to keep referring back to the Modo help files and reference libraries to understand how a tool was accessed and used. The color pics are great but a bit too small and on this copy a bit blurry so I could not read the menus very well. Overall is a good book to have and go back to but it is not the ultimate reference on Modo.I use a combination of this book reference and help files from within the application and the tutorial videos to get more in depth knowledge. I wish there was a book out there that would be for the real beginner and explain how the tools actually work for building a real model.I did not finished the book yet so there are a lot more to be learned. My intent with Modo is to do modeling only and export to other applications like zbrush and Vue so the Maya chapter was not helpful. A Modo and zBrush chapter would have been more useful since zbrush now has something called goZ with Modo.

Much Better in Print This is an excellent book that breaks from the traditional software training book. I highly recommend the printed version it is no brainer at 5STARS. Mr. McDermott's obvious experience in this area enriches the book by including not only information on modo but also a context in which a 3D artist works in the real world.Failure to include a Table of Contents in the Kindle edition however is a striking mistake. Since the printed edition is only a few dollars more I strongly recommend the book over the Kindle edition.

Flattens Out the Learning Curve Some have said that this book will flatten out your learning curve well it did for me. Wes takes the pain out of learning for me a new and difficult subject. His writing style and analogies are what makes the learning easier. Wes's website is a big help too. The examples in the book are easy to understand but were a bit hard for me to do probably because this is all new to me.I downloaded the trial version of Modo from the Luxology website but there is only so much you can do in the fifteen days they give you. Almost everybody else lets you try their programs for thirty days but that's a bad for Luxology not Wes who has written an excellent book about getting in the trenches with Modo. To get a full thirty day working not crippled version of Modo you have to shell out twentyfive bucks and that just sucks. Adobe dosen't do that and their programs cost every bit as much or more than Modo Modo 401 is $995.00.

Love it Yeah it's not for the absolute beginner and also not a step by step manual on how to use Modo. The book is so much more than that. The accompanying videos are worth the price alone.

"Real World Modo is excellent for experienced users and beginners alike. Wes McDermott's writing is accessible to users of all skill levels, and his topics are well thought-out and easy to follow. Real World Modo is now an important part of our organization's education library."

"A pragmatic and often personal guide to using modo (and by extension, 3D software in general) to get the job done.  This book is less about theory, and highly focused on results.  Wes gently but firmly guides you through the process with a steady hand and insight borne from untold thousands of hours using the software.  It's like having a modo buddy who takes the time to tell you what you really need to know to use the software effectively.
