Saw III Great movie, this is where they should have stopped.

Fantastic Great movie I picked this item up for a very good price and was shipped to my door within 4 days great shipping rate also. Very satisfied.
This Is Only A Test All I can say is WOW! I loved the third installment of the Saw franchise. It's packed with gore and scenes that will make you cringe and look away. Amongst this thickwithblood film we have another unique story with yet another climatic twist at the end. Saw III picks up where Saw II left off and if you haven't seen the first two Saw movies I strongly recommend that you watch them first. You'll see through flashbacks to the previous two Saw movies how Saw III fits together with the other two like a puzzle piece so all three are linked together perfectly.Amanda Shawnee Smith is back once again and she's vicious! She is a very strong and pivotal character in the film and Smith does an outstanding job of portraying the violent emotionally unstable Amanda.
Great movie this is where they should have stopped. This movie was another great horror movie. This is just as good as the second one in my opinion. The brain surgery scene was one of the most disgusting scenes I have seen in a movie in a long time. This is where I believe the series should have stopped. This would have made a great trilogy but unfortunately Hollywood doesn't know how to quit when they are on top.
Too heavy on story but pretty much makes up for it in the traps Saw 2 was *just* good enough to make me want to get the third one. Since it was like four bucks here for the Bluray I thought Why not?Short version It's the goriest Saw yet but still not as gory as some other flicks notably the remake of I Spit On Your Grave hey wanna watch fortyfive minutes of sadistic rape? Or do you prefer the girl's rather creative and tortuous revenge sequences that would make Jigsaw flinch? nor is it on the level of some of the classics like High Tension Suspiria or REC probably because Saw doesn't seem to take itself all that seriously but the other flicks do.
Saw III The downfall of Jigsaw After consecutively watching the entire Saw series over a recent weekend and LOVING it I decided that a single review with modified details could be used for all the films. Enjoy.A sadistic sociopath similar to the one in Se7en with an affinity for engineering likes to play lethal games forcing his victims those he deems unappreciative of life into an existential choice inside a million dollars worth of engineering and machinery.Saw THREE begins with ONE person trapped in an abandoned MEATPACKING PLANT. Forced to play the killer's Tobin Bell as John Jigsaw Kramer game JEFF Angus Macfadyen has to prove his will to live and his ability to FORGIVE. Meanwhile DET. ALLISON KERRY Dina Meyer OFFICER DANIEL RIGG Lyriq Bent and rugged veteran DET. MARK HOFFMAN Costas Mandylor are investigating as a team but ALLISON KERRY may be in too deep. As the law grows increasingly closer to ensnaring Jigsaw the game participant learns that AMANDA YOUNG Shawnee Smith may be an accomplice to his abduction and his situation provides a choice between VARIOUS TRAPS for OTHERS or guaranteed death for his family. To help his cause cryptic clues left via mini cassette tape lead him aka life perpetrator towards the precipice of twisted rehabilitation or a potential tomb.
Saw III Saw III definitly drives off emotions as one's story of tragedy and hatred leads to his lesson of forgiveness. Jeff certainly cannot get over his son's tragedy and has been living off of revenge. The family falls apart that leads to his wife making a moral decision. Jigsaw returns as he is getting closer to his end and initiates a game that would lead to an ultimate revaltion for Amanda. Saw III is awesome and worth the watch.
Best SAW Film Ever. SAW 3 is when they reach the absolute best plot in the series the first few movies are the best. SAW 1 was excellent and SAW 2 was great but SAW 3 is a masterpiece. Plot Jeff and Lynn which used to be a couple and are now divorced. They're both abducted Jigsaw is getting weaker from cancer and dying but Lynn is a doctor and must keep him alive or she'll also die. Jeff wants to get revenge on who was responsible for his sons death and is obsessed he was hit by a car but he can either forgive and save them or he'll also die. From the 2nd SAW Eric is still alive and makes it out by cutting his leg off. Also Amanda was the one working for Jigsaw and the one behind all of the Jigsaw traps. SAW 3 is an improvement over the first 2 better acting and plot. The Jigsaw Traps are better and more original more intense also.
Clearly vengeance only makes you angrier Jigsaw is back but his disease is defeating him little by little. Amanda's story is further detailed and how her relationship with John built over the last year or so in the timeline. The bathroom scene with Amanda and John was great to see as the set up for the game was in motion. How Amanda's emotions would get the best of her and killing Adam was sad to see. In the end Saw III was great and will lead into an awesome sequel with a bigger revalation.
Saw 3
Awesome this is the third instalment of the saw movies. saw three tell us the continus of saw 2 where we left of finding out that amand is helping jigsaw. now we'll see more of what happens in this movie. this movie is awesome.

  • Infection of Puzzle Master Disc I just received the Puzzle Master disc. When I attempted to run the game I found that it was contaminated by some type of virus or malware. Fortunately my security program caught it and apparently prevented it from infecting my system. I am both surprised and very annoyed that a socalled reputable supplier would allow such contamination and I think Amazon should be aware.
Trouble installing When I tried to install I got the message Trackwear megasearch detected. I didn't install it because I wasn't sure if it had a virus or not. It said it was in setup.exe. I did however get my money back from Amazon when I sent it back. I still don't understand why they would sell an infected product in the first place.
Could not get it to run. DO NOT BUY. I reinstalled this five plus time and every time it said that an error had occurred and and it could not open.
Install Prroblem The wife and I enjoy doing the many different puzzles however after installing the 1000000 Puzzel which by the way it nowhere close to 1 million I received the following message 'cannot open data file to run registration file' and could not opened the puzzles. I uninstalled the program and installed it once again and kept receiving the same message. I finally was able after much flustration and anger able to run the program as the 'administrator'. That is still the only way we are able to solve the puzzles. It is a pain.
Beware! This program attempts to install spyware on your computer! When I tried to install this program on my computer I got a popup from Norton Internet Security 2012 saying that this program was trying to install Trackware.MegaSearch which is an Internet Explorer toolbar that tracks your Internet activity and sends the information to a thirdparty web site. It also may hijack searches made with Internet Explorer according to Symantec.
Puzzle Master 1000000 I am very pleased with this puzzle collection. I was looking for a puzzle game that I could make puzzles of my own pictures downloaded in my computer. After reading comments where one woman was very dissapointed because of so much space for this instead of totally already made puzzles I knew it was what I wanted. I love to see my grandchildren's pictures made into puzzles and really enjoy working them.I do believe the name 1000000 Puzzles is VERY misleading.
    Puzzle Master 1000000
Fun for all of us works great even on Vista All of us have fun with this game from grandparent to grandkid. It does give errors if you try to run it in Windows Vista after the first time you close the program. So many reviews say it isn't compatible with Vista or won't work after the first time you run it or you have to install it each time you want to run it not true. Very simple way around the error that pops up after installation all you have to do is right click the desktop icon click on Run as administrator then click Allow and the game works just fine. Yes it's different and it requires two extra mouse clicks but it works fine.I was expecting it all to be installed as one game but it installs several different games. There are so many puzzles and different settings for all of the puzzles that this will keep us all occupied for a long time before using the feature that creates puzzles from your own pictures. The idea of having different trays that you can store and sort pieces in is great pointless if you do an easy puzzle but if you do the larger ones with more pieces it's great just like you were sitting at your table and making different piles.I was thinking I would buy more of these but I really think with all that comes with this game this will probably be enough for all of us.
Images are blurry I was disappointed to find that all of the puzzle images are just a bit blurry. So the colors bleed into eachother and lines look more like smudges. I uploaded my own personal picture to create a puzzle out of and when I first imported it the picture was still clear. When the program created a puzzle out of that same picture it was blurry.
Puzzle master 1000000 I dont like Iam unable to use it with window vista or 7.I have tried to do the compatableity and that will not even work. If anyone has any ideas please let me know. If not it is a waste of money.

Sucked! There's not to much else to say about this movie other than it really sucked. The 3D wasn't all that great and the CGI piranha looked horrible. The acting wasn't all that great either. Good I hope Piranha 3DD has a little more to offer but by the looks of the trailer I strongly doubt it.
Enjoyed Piranha 3D BUT Piranha 3D is a very simple movie boobs alcohol parting and piranha's pretty simple formula here that harkens back to the good ol' 70's and 80's exploitation flicks. So we have Christopher Lloyd gloriously overacting Jerry O'Connell playing a huge loveable Ahole with a very gruesome death Ving Rhames playing his usual badass self putting a boat propeller to good use and Elizabeth Shue playing concerned mother/cop.
Too disturbing and sickening for the human eyes Watched just over half of this movie and got so sickened by the intense gory scenes that I finally had to turn it off. Its one of the first movies that I couldn't make it through watching. Intense scenes of hundreds of evil fish chewing through peoples body's and ripping and chewing out eyeballs put me over the edge of almost puking. I knew going in that I was expecting to see dead remains of people bones but I wasn't expecting the continuous up close action of human flesh being ripped apart.
Nice old style B horror gory type movie. Only get this if you realize this is nothing on the level of Jaws and more of a gory campy B type movie. If your looking for Jaws this is not it but if your looking for a decent gory type movie that takes place in the water it hits the mark. For my taste this is perfect for me and I really enjoyed it.The 3D was good its not IMAX stunning but it adds to the movie.
We're gonna need a bigger boat. If you are looking for a horror movie that will rock your socks off Piranha 3D is where it's at. Total gore fest smoking hot girls the whole movie the 3D was fun.
Piranha Bluray 3D That was the worst movie I have ever seen.I think I will use the DVD as a target. It does NOT rate even 1 star.
Good movie Better than I thought it would be. Had some very funny bits. Well done for what it is. Happy with it.
It's okay for what it is. The box says Jaws meets girls gone wild but it's not a suspense movie which Jaws is. The most it has in common with Jaws is that it features man eating fish. It's campy horror with some decent gore clips.Girls gone wild is about right for the nudity. Mostly quick flashes which is fine but I preferred the more Playboy style scene with Kelly Brook & the blonde under water. Kelly Brook does look fine in this movie but Survival Island is better if you are a fan of hers.I enjoyed it for what it was. I'd either call it 3 or 4 stars 3 1/2 if amazon allowed it which is the average right now. I ultimately went with 3 stars because the part where they use a distraction to rig explosives takes forever & the whole rest of the movie suggests the distraction used would only last a few minutes if that. Epic fail if it were a serious movie passable plot device in a campy movie I suppose. The way they leave it open for a sequel seemed about stupid to me at 1st but once again it wasn't meant to be that serious.Just keep thinking campy throwback & you'll pretty much know if you want to see it or not. I'd say worth a rental or used price.
There is 2D movie in 3D Bluray disc Ha ha ha ha.not even a single effect which makes you feel like something is coming out of screen yes i do have good 3D setup.
Good Movie Bought the movie for my kids' they love this movie about the big fish. Don't know the fascination but they like it. Shipper was very quick even from Canada.

    Yay!!!
Excellent Product Saw 3 movie soundtrack has songs that beyond fabulousfor me at least. While I own superb country classical rock etc albums in the hundredsSaw 3 soundtrack espcially Fear Is Big Business by Ministry blows me away.I have recommended this product to others known to me as music lovers.I cant say enough about this one particular product Saw 3.truly this is one magnificent collection of songs I recommend it highly.
3.5/5 Could have been better My girlfriend purchased me this CD after constantly talking about how much I enjoyed the SAW franchise. I am a big fan of both the movie releases and the music from the movies. In my prior reviews of SAW soundtracks I pretty much stated that the original SAW motion picture soundtrack was the best for it incorporated the sounds and music from the actual movie with cuts of artists adding to the overall mix. In Saw II you only had one song from the SAW II the movie included on the CD. Having gone through the complete SAW III soundtrack several times I am disappointed in seeing again only one song included from the actual movie and that is only included by the last track S**thole Theme. In giving this album 3.5 rating I must state that out of the 20 songs there were 5 songs by artists that I liked and they were 'Monochrome' by Helmet 'No More' by Drowning Pool 'Drilled A Wire Through My Cheek' by Blue October and 'Killer Inside' by Hydrovibe that also featured one of the actress adding vocals musically. Also another good rock song was 'Saqqara' by Hourcast. The rest of the CD tracks were a tad too rough and course for me. I like my rock but at a softer feel and sound. I can't stand a singer shouting and screaming into a mic for no good reason. It sounded like a Bgrade heavy metal sound. Again we were not given the opportunity to witness more of Charlie Clouser's beautiful composing.I hope for the SAW IV soundtrack the producers will return to giving us wanting listeners a split between music from the movie and some from differing artists. But overall this soundtrack wasn't half bad. I just will in the future playing of this album skip several songs that irritate me.
Great movie great music. SAW is definitely one of the best movies of all time especially the 3rd one. More intense movie and better music. Slayer's Eyes of the Insane is the standout track for the soundtrack All That Remains and Ministry are also some of my favorites. Most of the songs aren't on the movie that much so I wouldn't recommend watching the movie for the music. There's also some instrumental music from Charlie Clouser previously worked with Nine Inch Nails.
Intense!!! Intense music for an intense movie. My favorite artist on the soundtrack is Blue October. But There isn't a bad song on the cd.

Basically a rehash of Magic Eye I and II By A Customer Nothing new for the 3D afficienado here. First timers will be amazed. Doesn't have the artistic advances of a 3D Book of Angels or Henry's Gift.
LOADS OF IMAGINATION AND FUN MY HUSBAND LOVES THESE MAGIC EYE PICTURES. SO WHEN HE TOLD ME ABOUT THEM I LOOKED ON LINE WITH AMAZON AND THERE THEY WERE. WE ORDERED TWO AND ARE HAVING A BALL WITH THEM. OUR GRANDKIDS REALLY HAVE FUN TRYING TO FIND THE HIDDEN 3D PICTURE.
Magic Eye III I love the Magic Eye series I would recomend this book for almost any coffee table. The illusions are both fun and engaging definatly a conversation starter.
something wrong with editing My 7 and 9 year olds as well as all their cousins enjoy the Magic Eye books. So I ordered a couple for Christmas. One good thing is that to help you know if you're seeing the correct image they have black and white answers in the back. There is something vaguely disturbing in the answers section of this one. For page 28 the answer shows a Chainsaw Teddy an image of a teddy bear getting it's head cut off by a chainsaw. The actual image on page 28 is a baseball player catcher and umpire. Very odd.
Awsome I love all the "Magic Eye" books. Trust me if you bring this or any one of the "Magic Eye" books out at a party you will have loads of fun! Everyone just races to see the images! There are a lot of folks who have tried to create 3d images but only one remains the forerunner in this innovative area and that's "Magic Eye"!! You creative folks at "Magic Eye" are just AWESOME.
Magic Eye Books are Great! I love Magic Eye books! Some images are more challenging than others but it's fun watching them develop.
Books I really love these books. I am fascinated by the technique used to get the 3d affect. I have everyone out.

not what i ordered I purchased this item at a very good price but when I got it it wasnt what the picture said it was.
Favorite horror movie of all time. Adam and Lawrence wake up in a room and can't remember what happened. They're chained to metal posts and try to escape but then they find 2 saws. They try to escape by sawing through the chain and other ways until they realize that they have to saw their leg off to get out. Lawrence must also kill Adam or his wife and daughter will be killed. The SAW series is my favorite horror movie of all time. I've seen several classics like Nightmare on Elm ST The Exorcist the Shining Poltergeist Friday the 13th and several others but SAW is my favorite.
creepy this is fun and creepy in the end it fizzles out with the reason why but other than that solid horror.
original. just this one though. this was a very original film. it has clever traps good acting and a genius plot twist. watch it savor it cause this is original as they get. not to say that i don't like the sequels though i like them all save the fourth one. but this one is ORIGINAL.
A review of both the film and DVD edition I am a fan of Saw. Some say goreporn some say original indi thriller. This 2 disc DVD edition is a great own for a collector of film and saw fans alike. I gave this 4 out of 5 due ONLY to the fact that the case itself is easily breakable. Like Saw? Do you buy every movie you see? This is a great addition to your collection just don't drop it.
Sawalicious Clever scary and intense. This movie is sure to please those both into psychological horror and horror just for the fun of it. On top of that there is some great acting that is rarely found in scary movies.
People must see this SAW is the most interesting movie ive ever had the honor to view. Though the acting is not the greatestthe overall theme and various messeges of the movie make it all worth while. In order to enjoy ityou have to try to get inside the jigsaw killer's twisted mind. He is not a killer. He tests his victims to see what they will do to stay alive to prove the value of life. There is an art to the jigsaw killers actionsalmost poetic. This film goes to show that evenwith a dirtlow production value a great film can be made.
Best the first time around! This is one of the movies where after you watch out the first time its not really good anymore. I say that because after you watch it and find out everything out loses its suspense the second time around.
I LOVE SAW! I'm a fan of SAW. Not really scary to me but gross and bloody. Those are the best kind of horror movies. Great suspense too. Definitely a must have. I already have a copy of SAW but I purchased one from Amazon as a gift. Love the price.
I Love This Game I remember seeing this movie at my local movie rental store and wanting to check it out but never got around to actually watching it for the longest time. What was I waiting for?! Saw is the first of this amazing franchise in horror and it's a goody. It's fresh smart and keeps you guessing. With a unique storyline complete with twists surprises puzzles and intense horror Saw is movie that keeps you watching. As the story unfolds you won't believe how the people are so linked together having more in common then you can know. And you especially won't believe the ending! It is truly epic. Director James Wan and writer Leigh Whannell did a great job with this film.In a downright disgusting bathroom Adam Leigh Whannell a voyeur photographer wakes up in a bathtub with his foot chained to a pipe. Across from him foot also chained to a pipe is Lawrence Gordon Cary Elwes a doctor.

So Far from God: The U.S. War With Mexico, 1846-1848 Read more...

Excellent coverage of the military and political aspects of the war Any war is a complicated equation requiring multiple authors and perspectives. In this case reviewing the Mexican colonial period and revolution and early American Republic history are all worthwhile in order to better understand where the Mexican War fits within the bigger picture of North American development in the early to mid1800s.Within the parameters of the subject matter covered in this book the author does an excellent job of helping us understand the American political environment as it affects the instigation and prosecution of the war. This provides an excellent background against which the war itself plays out. The author colors in this background with stories of the main players each army's expedition and the major outcomes of each battle. Battle descriptions are tasteful and concise with no hint of jingoism or derogation of Mexico its military leaders or its people. In conclusion this book is wellwritten and the author makes history come alive which is a rare skill for an historian. The book should be a mustread for anybody interested in studying 19th Century American history.
A Great Survey of the MexicanAmerican War I was required to read this book for a military history class and it was used as the main source for battle presentations we did for the war.The book surveys all the major battles including some skirmishes and includes the social & political contexts for both sides as well as fights within the U.S. admin on who should execute certain campaigns in other words political fights. The professor had 1 correction to make Eisenhower refers to Arnold Gillespie but according to the USMC his name is Archibald Gillespie.I found to be a great intro to the war.
Needs a Little More Context This book is a good introduction to the Mexican War for those who are relatively new to the subject matter as I was. You will come away feeling you know about the events of the war. I was a little dissapointed however in the relative lack of political context around the war. The author injects little snippets here and there of the political context but it is very limited and fragmented. And what there is tends to focus more on the personal fueds between and among generals and politicians which is mostly unnecessary and distracting. There are some very interesting political and cultural questions surrounding this small war that have enormous implications. For example the clear connection between expansionism and the growing slavery dispute between north and south. What about the extraordinary fact that it was at heart a war of conquer and conquest of territory? What of the political debate between Democrats who wanted to annex all of Mexico to the U.S.
A Good Introduction Eisenhower's So Far From God is a good book on the subject of the Mexican War but when compared to others on the same subject it's perhaps not as strong. Some of the other reviewers seemed to crave something more more about the Mexican Army and the Mexican People. Well there are other books that do cover those things. So Far From God should be viewed as a good introduction to the military history of the conflict. More recent publications deal with the big picture the politics and the social history etc. Eisenhower's book is a fair treatment however especially considering that when it was published few authors other than Bauer the master on the military side of this conflict had offered much in the way of a history of the Mexican War.Eisenhower deals fairly with the leaders the generals and the Mexican officers and leaders as well. The plain fact is that the Mexican Army performed terribly as a whole despite the valiant efforts of many units and individuals and seldom if ever succeeded in defeating the American Army in any serious engagement. While Bauer's The Mexican War is still the finest military history of the conflict and Winders Mr. Polk's Army the best social study of the American Army on the subject So Far From God remains a steady and accurate depiction of this brief but complicated war.
Very good This is a very readable summary history of the war told in a straightforward style. I do have my usual criticism of such histories inadequate maps.
The best book on this war Interest in the war with Mexico fluctuates from low to none. Most authors simply do not consider this war as anything but a precursor to the American Civil War. These histories focus not on this war but on the junior officers that were important in the next one. This book focuses on the War with Mexico as a standalone event and as part of America's history. In doing so the book is both unique and important. John S. D. Eisenhower is an excellent writer and a respected historian with a number of excellent books to his credit. This is one of his better ones and could be the best overview of this war. It is readable intelligent and accurate with the right amount of looking forward to 1861.
Complete Unjudgemental History of the Mexican War A complete alalysis of the almost forgotten war with Mexico. Mr. Eisenhower leaves judgement to the reader and gives a detailed discription of the war and its battleswith good maps. He introduces many of the future players in the civil war. If the book is written by an Eisenhower it is worth readingin my experiance.
So close to the United States John S.D. Eisenhower is one of the best writers of military history because he can tell you what happened why and how without getting too judgmental about the events. Who was in the wrong is left up to the reader. Was the United States too greedy? Was Mexico too proud? He gives us the facts but in a form that makes it seem like a great military novel. Tons of maps a complete index and the sequence of events in the back of the book all help to support his writing and make things even clearer. There is even two Appendixes Mexico in 1844 and Artillery Used in the Mexican War that you may find helpful. But outside of the weapons used by the soldiers the tactics used by the armies and the battles fought all over the landscape the author brings to life many of the people involved many of which we would meet later in the American Civil War.A must for any library dealing with American History Military History and Mexican History.
Not Eisenhower's best effort Long a fan of Eisenhower's Bitter Woods book about the Ardennes OffensiveI was eager to read his account of the Mexican War. While his account can certainly be called exhaustive it is too often clouded by his personal biases in which he interjects totally superfluous and unwanted opinions about just about everything. He seems to actually believe that he can read minds because most of what he says can only be considered pure speculation something usually undesirable in a history text. He is also quite arrogantin presuming his ethics superior to virtually all persons he writes aboutalthough rather amazingly he writes little of the actions of R.E. Lee a true hero of the war and one Ike Jr would have a tough time finding fault with having been described later by Scott as the very best soldier I have ever seen on a battlefield when he advised Lincoln to select Lee to head the Union army as the Civil War loomed. You'd never know that from reading Eisenhower's text. But perhaps Eisenhower's greatest sin is his penchant fortrying to explain actions of the Mexicans and their government and why Mexico was such a basket case from way before that long ago war until the present day. He certainly is at home describing military actions and strategy but his sociology and civics lecturering is absurdly nonsensical and rather arrogantly condescending concerning just about every one. What a colossal disappointment this book has been.
The US Military Campaign in the Mexican War So Far from God by John S. D. Eisenhower brigadier general in the Army Reserve ambassador to Belgium and president's son is a military history of the Mexican War of 184648. The title is taken from the quote from Mexican General Porfirio Diaz Poor Mexico! So far from God and so close to the United States.I read this book as a counterpoint to A Country of Vast Designs by Robert W. Merry which I have also reviewed on Amazon.com. While Merry's book is historically factual and very well written it did leave me with the feeling that he was less than objective in his favorable treatment of President Polk. Eisenhower's book is a good counterpoint in that it is also historically factual provides far more detail on military tactics and is not biased in favor of Polk. If Eisenhower displays any bias it is toward the field commanders Generals Winfield Scott and Zachary Taylor in their dealings with Polk. I can't find much to criticize about Taylor's dealings with the president but I believe there was plenty of fault to be shared between Scott and Polk. Scott was a superb field commander who planned and executed the amphibious landing of his army at Veracruz capture of that city overland march capture of Mexico City and occupation of that city almost flawlessly. He was cited by no less authority than the Duke of Wellington as the greatest living soldier. However Scott was also egotistical insubordinate to both the President and the Secretary of War and fully deserving of his troops' nickname Old Fuss and Feathers. My only criticism of Eisenhower's book is that it needs a better editor. Senator Lewis Cass is cited as the senator from Ohio he represented Michigan. Polk's emissary to John C. Fremont who commanded a US Army expedition in California was US Marine Lieutenant Archibald H. Gillespie Eisenhower renames him Arnold H. Gillespie. These are perhaps trivial errors but they leave me wondering what other errors I might have missed. If you are looking for a detailed description of the US military campaign in the Mexican War read Eisenhower's book.

Get Jeremy Birn's book first By A Customer Before you even think of buying this book you should first read "Digital Lighting & Rendering" by Jeremy Birn. Birn's book covers many more subjects in much more detail. Fleming's book presents some useful theories about clutter. Other than that compared to the Jeremy Birn book "3D Photorealism Toolkit" has little to recommend it.
Useful and Readable I found this book despite being fat and very full of text on a technical subject to be VERY readable. The author leavens the subject with a sense of humor and with personal experiences. I also was going from page to page going oh is THAT how you do that. The only downer was that he was giving directions for how to capture images to use with a Polaroid camera and a scanner. Apparently this book was written before digital cameras took off. However most of what he said to take pictures of and why still apply so it translated to current technology. And that was mostly only in one chapter out of many. The directions are NOT software specific which means you can use the book with whatever you're using not with the software he's using. Which is goodthe software I'm using wasn't even listed in his book.I'm very glad I bought this.
Realism in theory I found Bill's methods valuable but his images are not photorealistic enough and may not be too helpful for beginners. Most annoying thing is that most of images are printed only in grayscale and only few are in color. If reader want's to see color versions he/she has to download images from writers website. Due to grayscaleproblem there were some troubles to compare images properly to see differences in them and I was not always sure what Bill really meant in his text unless I saw color versions. Writer also keeps repeating same things over and over across different chapters and more tighter writing style would get the job done more easily. I would shorten this book about half and drop price alsoand include at least one photorealistic image to see what the subject really is.
A must Have I bought this book over 3 years ago and I keep going back for it for reference. The book covers photorealism as principles and guidelines that establish much more understanding concering producing 3d imagery. The problem that it's lighting section is a bit weak and it does not have almost any color pages. If you would like to become a better 3d artist buy this one.
Excellent as always from this writer.. Fantastic book. I am an editor with 3dnation and really found this book helpful to me when making my animations. He makes you think about what makes up the image and surrounding enviroment. What I really found valuable in this book is the chart in the back to make objects take on the characteristics in the real world.. want that pager to have a rubber surface..look it up page 316. Other animators usually do not want you to have this information. Bill does..
get [digital] lighting and rendering By A Customer This book does indeed contain true insight into creating photorealism and using Fleming's concepts it is easy to surpass his own attempts at photorealism. This book would be however much more valuable to a 19 year old kid who just got his hands on TrueSpace than to a professional artist. If you are looking for a quick and helpful read about many of the same concepts but presented more concisely and technically read [digital] lighting and rendering or so I believe it to be called.
Good technique so so implimentation I found many useful techniques in the book and I have been able to apply them in a way that makes my work more photorealistic. Bill's writing style is not for everyone. On the whole it is pretty casual and some chapters lack clarity. The supplied images are ok but have a certain cartoonish read not photorealistic quality to them mostly because his techniques are overused and the color is overly saturated. The book does supply some valuable information but it isn't the last word on photorealism.
Photorealism made easy This book discussed ways to make your 3D images more realistic using techniques I either hadn't thought of or had no idea how to implement. The book is in a chatty humerous style that can sometimes grate on your nerves but it is easy to understand and learn from which is the most important point. The only drawback to this volume is that most of the illustrations are in black and white which makes seeing the necessary comparisons in texture rather difficult. Color images are available on plates in the middle section but not all of them and on a website. While the website is a good idea for distributing the color images it would have been handier to have a CD even if the price of the book had been higher.
A little knowledge is a tedious thing to sift through 300+ pages of. This book mixes a handful of helpful suggestions for the beginner in with a bunch of other um stuff. Not necessarily wrong mind you just simplified to the point where it's no longer quite right either. Look closely at the cover before you buy use Amazon's 'larger photo' link. If you are swept away by the detail in the shot the variety of surfaces the color the artful disorder this book may be for you. If you find yourself wondering where the light source is why the image drops off into shadow at the top or why everything still looks like plastic prepare to be disappointed. The book relies very heavily on scenes like this amazingly detailed but clearly drawn from the author's imaginaton. Many images and examples also suffer from onlyin3D artifacts such as improbable camera placements or unreal light behavior. For a technically ept discussion of lighting cameras film reflection radiosity and surfacing I would recommend [digital] Lighting and Rendering by Jeremy Birn. For tips on clutter and surface aging I would visit web site name while the downloads are heavy they at least present photorealism using real photographs.
EXCELLENT content but grating prose idiosyncrasies & no CD By A Customer The principles set forth in Bill's book and his indepth explanations will be invaluable to any 3D artist/creator/animator. Anyone doubting his abilities need only view the very impressive gallery at his Komodo Studios website to be convinced. That said I feel compelled to also note that I personally find Bill's prose style extremely annoying. Rather than staying on point and sticking to the technical he goes out of his way to write in a very conversational style. A lot of "let's take a minute and stretch our legs before we begin on the next chapter shall we?" type of stuff that I can't stand. And one paragraph in particular stood out. He uses the phrase "let's take a look" four times within six sentences. Sorry exEnglish major venting. But worse if you want color versions of the black & white illustrations in the book and the accompanying 3D mesh and map files to follow along with his examples you have to download all 30MB of them from his publisher's website. To NOT include a CD as so many other reference books now do including some of Bill's other books is inexcusable especially considering how visuallyoriented his subject matter is.In the final analysis I'll not hesitate to buy more if not all of Bill's books. Again the content was phenomenal I'll just have to grin and bear the way it's presented.
